Recommendation for PFSense Hardware – Spiceworks

May 04, 2017 · I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for hardware for a PFSense build for my home office. I will have two WANs, one 50Mbit ADSL line and one 400Mbit line which I want to configure for failover.

As Pfsense is a freebsd based firewall it is very efficient an reliable OS. Pfsese 2.0 is in RC3 state now, so almost RTM. It is based on FreeBSD 8.1 I always check FreeBSD Hardware Compatibility List to see if my harware will be working with pfsense.

Server hardware is a must (supermicro is cool). I have been looking at the Intel Atom platform, for example the Supermicro motherboard model A1SRi-2758F, with Atom Processor C2758 TDP 20w, 2.40 Ghz, 4 mb cache, 8 cores and 8 threads.

I am prepping to migrate from m0n0wall to pfSense. I recently upgraded my WAN connection to 100/100mbps and will be moving to 1000/1000mbps in 2015. My old m0n0wall box is not able to keep up at 100/100 due to old hardware, so I thought it would be a gre
